What was the Jaxx Liberty Wallet?
Jaxx Liberty Wallet was built by Decentral, the Toronto company that launched the original Jaxx back in 2016. Liberty was the bigger, tidier successor: one app for Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, ERC-20 tokens and more, with a portfolio view, live price charts and an integrated exchange button — all wrapped around a single 12-word recovery phrase.
Crucially, it was a self-custody wallet. There was no sign-up, no email address on file and no company holding your balance. The keys were generated on your own phone or desktop, and only the public addresses ever touched the internet. That design is exactly why your crypto is still reachable today even though the app is gone.
What changed in 2023 was the software, not the money. Decentral retired Jaxx Liberty on 27 March 2023 and pulled the apps from the stores, so a wallet you still have installed can no longer fetch balances or broadcast a transaction. The coins, however, never sat in the app — they sit on the blockchain, waiting behind those twelve words.

Choose a wallet that is actively maintained and that accepts a 12-word BIP39 phrase — there are many reputable options across mobile and desktop. Restore there and your old addresses and balances reappear.

Move funds to fresh addresses
A phrase that lived through a retired app has been exposed longer than you would like. Send the balance to a newly created wallet, so the old words no longer unlock anything you care about.

Can I still use the Jaxx Liberty Wallet app?
No. The app was retired on 27 March 2023 and development stopped, so balances and transactions no longer work reliably. It is not a place to keep funds today — treat it as a way to read your old addresses, nothing more.
Have I lost my crypto because the app shut down?
Almost certainly not. Self-custody means the funds sit on the blockchain rather than on the company's servers. If you have your 12-word recovery phrase, the same wallet can be restored in any compatible app.
What if I never wrote the phrase down?
If the app still opens on a device you own, look in its settings or menu for the recovery phrase and write it out before the device changes. Without the phrase or the original device, no one — including the developers — can recover the wallet.
Is there an official new version of Jaxx Liberty?
No new version was released. Any site, advert or download page promising a fresh Jaxx Liberty installer is unsupported and frequently malicious, so start from an official store listing instead.
Where should the funds go instead?
